Day 13 of the menstrual cycle

In short: what happens on day 13?

Day 13 of the menstrual cycle is when, in a 28-day cycle, LH surges and the chance of pregnancy reaches its highest level. Peak oestrogen triggers the brain to release LH; about 24–36 hours after the LH surge begins, the mature follicle ruptures and releases an egg.

What the animation shows

FSH
Follicle-stimulating hormone: starts the growth of follicles in the ovary
