14 weeks pregnant
The second trimester begins; your baby’s crown–rump length is about 8.5 cm.
Week 14 marks the start of the second trimester. For many mums-to-be, this is the most comfortable part of pregnancy: nausea eases and energy returns.

About the size of a peach
What can be seen on the ultrasound?
Head diameter (BPD), head circumference (HC), abdominal circumference (AC) and femur length (FL) are now measured. BPD is about 27 mm and FL about 14 mm. The heart rate is about 155 beats per minute.
Your baby’s development
Your baby is about the size of a peach and weighs around 43 grams. Facial expressions are developing: your baby can frown and suck their thumb. The body begins to be covered in fine hair (lanugo).
Changes in your body
For most people nausea passes and appetite increases. Your womb rises into the abdomen and your bump becomes more noticeable.
Check-ups at this stage
- Routine check: blood pressure, weight, urine
- Planning the quadruple test for weeks 15–20 (if needed)
- Dental check-up
Tips for this week
- Meet your increased appetite with balanced meals
- Get used to sleeping on your side; a pillow between your knees can help
- Use a moisturiser on stretching skin
When should you see your doctor?
Contact your doctor if you have bleeding, regular contractions, fluid leaking from the vagina or a severe headache.
