35 weeks pregnant
Your baby is about 46 cm and 2.4 kg; the window for the GBS test opens.
At week 35, your baby gains weight quickly – up to 200 grams a week. Screening for group B streptococcus (GBS) is done around this time.

How big is your baby this week?
About the size of a leek
What can be seen on the ultrasound?
BPD is about 89 mm, HC about 318 mm, AC about 311 mm and FL about 67 mm. The estimated weight is around 2,400 grams.
Your baby’s development
Your baby is about the length of a leek. The kidneys are fully developed and the liver can process waste products. With less room to move, kicks give way to wriggles and stretches.
Changes in your body
You need to pass urine more often. When your bump drops, breathing may become easier, but pelvic pressure increases.
Check-ups at this stage
- GBS (group B streptococcus) screening (weeks 35–37)
- Routine check: blood pressure, weight, urine
- Check-ups usually every week
Tips for this week
- Give your hospital bag a final check
- Note the signs of labour (regular contractions, waters breaking, bleeding)
- Make rest a priority
When should you see your doctor?
Seek care straight away if you have reduced baby movements, bleeding, leaking fluid, regular contractions that get closer together, a severe headache or blurred vision.
Growth by week
Values are averages; differences of a few days or a few millimetres between babies are normal.

Frequently asked questions
What is the GBS test?
A swab from the vagina and rectum is tested for group B streptococcus bacteria. If positive, antibiotics are given during labour to protect your baby from infection.
Do baby movements decrease?
The type of movement changes, but the number should not decrease. Any clear drop from your baby’s usual pattern should be checked straight away.
