HPV Genotyping Test

Modern genetic research technologies have made it possible to identify the specific HPV type responsible for an infection. Using DNA "sequence analysis," the HPV type is determined in HPV-positive patients, revealing their risk level for cervical cancer.

Knowing the HPV type in an HPV-positive patient helps guide the planning of surgical approaches or the start of more intensive follow-up.

Of course, a high-risk HPV type does not guarantee that a patient will develop cervical cancer. Similarly, a low-risk HPV type does not mean zero cancer risk for a patient.

These technological tests — which function almost like an early warning system enabled by modern genetic technology — play a major role in the early detection, treatment, and prevention of cervical cancer, the second-leading cause of cancer death among women.
