Let's start with examples of laser use in medicine.
Example "1": Eye — "Femtosecond Laser Cataract Surgery"
With femtosecond laser technology, the surgeon uploads the shape, angle, and size of the intended corneal incisions into the computer. The relevant data for opening the capsule containing the cataract is entered, followed by the values needed to fragment the cataract. All that remains is pressing the pedal to perform the procedure. During surgery, small astigmatic irregularities on the cornea can also be corrected with laser incisions called "arcuate" incisions.
In eye surgery, it is clear that the laser's role is to cut.
Another laser application familiar to every woman is hair removal.
In laser hair removal, the laser light source destroys hair follicles by burning them.
In short, using laser to place sutures or join tissue (including the hymen) is simply not possible.
So how can laser be used in hymenoplasty?
In hymenoplasty, laser is used to make incisions in the tissue to be joined, depending on the technique used.
In the permanent hymenoplasty procedures we've described, incisions are made to join tissue fragments within the vagina.
These incisions are then brought together with suture material (flap or parallel wall approximation).
Using laser for flap or parallel wall approximation is, in fact, not very suitable.
Laser cuts tissue by burning it with high-intensity light energy, which means burning the very surfaces meant to be joined.
For hymen tissue to heal properly — that is, generate new cells — continued blood flow through the capillaries is important.
For this reason, laser use in hymenoplasty procedures is very limited.
Being misrepresented or poorly explained has led to a misconception that laser is a tissue-joining tool.
Laser can be used for women with vaginal laxity.
However, compared to a proper vaginal tightening procedure (vaginoplasty), its effect is only about 10%, or 15% at most.
It is quite suitable for women without severe laxity who want a rejuvenating (tightening) effect.

Do We Use Laser in Hymenoplasty?
Yes, of course — we use laser where it is genuinely needed.

When we use laser for hymenoplasty procedures:
- Lightening the color of the labia minora (inner lips): hormonal or genetic factors can cause the labia minora to darken or develop an uneven texture. In these cases, Fotona laser technology can help restore the labia minora to a more natural color.
- For excessive length or sagging of the labia minora: whether due to genetics or gradual wear, we use Fotona laser to correct sagging and shape irregularities for a more aesthetic result.
- For incisions in hymenoplasty procedures: permanent hymenoplasty procedures require incisions to join the planned tissue sections. In some patients, where we need to join thicker flap sections or make deep incisions for parallel wall approximation, we use Fotona laser when millimeter-precise cuts are required.
- Laser is not used in temporary hymenoplasty. Temporary hymenoplasty procedures do not involve incisions. For this reason, laser is not used in temporary hymenoplasty procedures, aside from genital aesthetic purposes.
