What Is Abortion:

Although the word "abortion" is commonly used to refer to the elective termination of a pregnancy, there are actually many different types of curettage procedures.

A Pipelle biopsy curettage and a diagnostic (probe) curettage performed for abnormal or excessive bleeding are just two examples.

The word "curettage" comes from the French, meaning "to scrape."

While elective pregnancy termination is historically associated with a scraping technique, modern practice has moved toward the vacuum method, which is now used by most newer-generation physicians.
