Day 18 after hymenoplasty: the follow-up examination and restrictions specific to you

Day 18 · permanent hymenoplasty, flap technique

The periods in this series are general rules and are written the same way for everyone. Your doctor may ask some patients to follow additional restrictions; in that case, what you were told is what applies. Day eighteen is a good time to remember this distinction.

That is also why the follow-up examination matters: some topics, such as the pool, are only settled at that examination. Today we look at how you can prepare for the examination and what you can ask your doctor.

In the restriction calendar the pool and child rows are highlighted and day eighteen is marked.
The end day of the pool and picking-up-a-child rows is not written in the calendar; your doctor sets both.

Why does what your doctor says come first?

This day-by-day guide passes on general rules. Your doctor, however, is the person who performed the procedure and who examines you. If they gave you a longer period or a restriction not mentioned here, you follow that instead of the date in the guide. The decision on who needs an additional restriction belongs to your doctor. That is why comparing a period you were given with another patient's is not a useful guide. When you read the guide and cannot reconcile a period with your own situation, the way to find out what is right is to ask the clinic.

What does the follow-up examination determine?

Complete healing is assessed at the follow-up examination, and the pool is not recommended until then. We cannot write on this page on which day the examination takes place or exactly what is looked at during it; your doctor will tell you.

If your appointment date is not set, you can find it out by calling the clinic. Do not set yourself a date for the pool before the examination; passing day twenty is not a measure for this.

If you have a child

Picking up a child is risky, because they may kick. How many days this rule lasts is not given as a general number; ask your doctor how long you need to be careful. The follow-up examination is a good opportunity to ask this question.

Questions you can take to the examination

  • From what date can I go into a pool?
  • When can I pick up my child?
  • In what order should I return to sport?
  • Is there a restriction specific to me that differs from the general rules?
  • On which day can I first go into the sea?
  • Is there anything I need to know about my stitches?

Do today

  • Write the questions that come to mind on your phone or on paper.
  • Confirm the day and time of your check-up appointment.
  • Note down separately any periods you were given specifically.

Avoid today

  • Do not go into a pool before the check-up.
  • Avoid picking up your child.
  • Do not put the general calendar in place of the period your doctor gave you.
  • Do not go into the sea; day 20 is not yet complete.

Call us if

  • Report a persistent discharge that has turned yellowish, changed smell or that you cannot make sense of, without waiting for the check-up day.
  • If you cannot tell whether a restriction applies to you, ask by phone.

Frequently asked questions

When is the follow-up examination after hymenoplasty?

Your doctor tells you on which day the check-up takes place; we cannot give a general day on this page. If you were not told your appointment or do not remember the date, you can call the clinic. Complete healing is assessed at this examination, and the pool is not recommended until then.

What is checked at the follow-up examination?

The examination assesses whether healing is complete. Your doctor will explain exactly which steps are followed; we do not give details here. Taking your questions in writing makes it easier to discuss all the topics, such as the pool, sport and restrictions specific to you.

My doctor gave me a different period; which should I follow?

The one your doctor gave you. Some patients may need additional restrictions, and what the doctor tells the patient always takes priority. The days in this series are general information; if you were given a longer period or an additional rule, you follow that. If a difference is on your mind, you can ask the clinic.

This page is for general information only; it does not replace an examination or your doctor's advice. Some patients may need additional restrictions. The durations and rules your doctor gives you always take priority over those on this page.
