Day 15 after abortion: the last day of the bath and pool restriction

Day 15 · Recovery after abortion

Today is the last day of the fifteen-day period set for the bath and the pool. From tomorrow these two restrictions are no longer on the clinic's calendar.

The rules about water often get mixed up, because the periods for the shower, the bath, the pool and the sea are not the same. Below you will find all four separately; the tampon rule for the sea is also set out step by step.

Short answer

When can you get into a bath or a pool after an abortion?

Under SoftCare Clinic's rule, baths and pools are avoided for 15 days after an abortion; day 15 is the last day of this restriction. Showering is allowed from the procedure onwards. You can swim in the sea from day 10 at the earliest, with a vaginal tampon: the tampon stays in for at most 30 minutes, and after the third change you stay out of the water for an hour.

Today's topic on the calendar

The bath and pool restriction ends on day fifteen; the sea has been open since day ten with the tampon rule.

On a twenty-eight-day calendar, the bath and pool band ends on day fifteen and the sea band starts on day ten.

How many days after an abortion can you get into a bath or pool?

The clinic's rule is fifteen days, and this period is completed today. Today you still need to wait; the last day is also within the restriction.

By bath we mean bathing while sitting or lying in the water; a shower taken standing up is outside this restriction.

In this series, the procedure day is counted as day zero. If you think your own calendar may be off by a day, you can tell the clinic your procedure date and get it confirmed.

The jacuzzi, hot springs and hammam are not mentioned separately in the clinic's written rules. If you are planning one of these, ask your doctor before going.

What are the rules for the shower, bath, pool and sea?

  • Shower: allowed since the procedure day.
  • Bath: not for fifteen days; today is the last day.
  • Pool: the same period as the bath, not for fifteen days.
  • Sea: from day ten, with a vaginal tampon.

How is the tampon rule applied at the sea?

You insert the tampon before getting into the water. A tampon stays in for no more than thirty minutes; when the time is up, you replace it with a new one. After the third change you take a one-hour break, then continue if you wish.

This routine is the clinic's own rule; going into the sea without a tampon or extending the times falls outside the rule.

The clinic's written rules do not state until which day the tampon rule applies at the sea, or whether it is also needed for the pool from tomorrow. Your doctor will tell you.

Do today

  • Keep showering.
  • Leave your pool plans for tomorrow or later.
  • If you are going to the sea, take enough tampons with you.
  • Ask your doctor about any water settings you are unsure of.

Don't do today

  • Do not fill the bath today; the last day is included in the restriction.
  • Do not keep a tampon in for more than thirty minutes at the sea.
  • Do not skip the one-hour break after three changes.

Special note

If your bleeding or spotting continues

According to ACOG, bleeding and spotting can last up to two weeks after an abortion. If you are still bleeding on day fifteen, ask your doctor before getting into a bath or a pool; the doctor will tell you whether you need to wait.

When should you call?

Call 112 first (if you are abroad, that country's emergency number)

Frequently asked questions

Can you shower after an abortion?

Yes. Under SoftCare Clinic's rules after an abortion you can shower; the restriction is set not for the shower but for the bath and the pool. Baths and pools are avoided for fifteen days. If there is a personal recommendation about showering for you, your doctor will tell you separately.

When can you swim in the sea after an abortion?

Under the clinic's rule, you can swim in the sea from day ten at the earliest, using a vaginal tampon. A tampon stays in for no more than thirty minutes; after changing it three times a one-hour break is needed. If your doctor told you a different day, what they said applies.

Can I go into a pool 15 days after an abortion?

Day fifteen is the last day of the restriction; the period set by the clinic for the pool is completed when this day ends. If your bleeding or spotting continues, consult your doctor before going into the pool.
